How I Damaged The Eye In The Back Of My Head
Updated: Jul 1, 2020
As a mother I have always told the kids that I have eyes in the back of my head. I think that for most of their young lives they actually believed me. Not a day went by that one of them didn’t do something when my back was turned and I didn’t instinctively know that it was happening. I think Brad suffered the most under the beady watchfulness of the eye in the back of my head. He seemed to always be getting into mischief and the thing with Brad is that he would admit it before I actually guessed at what he was up to. It was an uncanny trait of mine (which I still have the knack for nowadays from time to time).
Somehow I don’t think I’m the only mother with en eye in the back of my head either. It’s a common thing really. A phenomenon brought on by the eerie silence of a toddler when you expect them to be playing with a noisy toy or emptying their toy box. The eye in the back of your head need never be tested by an optician. It has an energy saving device built in and it grows stronger through the years. Eventually it detects the finer things too, such as the rolling of eyes in a teenager and the smirking of one’s spouse when he thinks you are micromanaging him again!
However, one should be careful because although the eye in the back of the head doesn’t need any maintenance or the wearing of glasses and contact lenses it can be damaged. Things like wooden headboards are an enormous threat to eye health. If, like me, you are an avid bedtime puzzler, then your wooden headboard becomes lethal for the eye in the back of your head. Mine seems to have lost it’s peripheral vision after thirty years. I’m no longer seeing as much as I used to. Jamie thinks this is a lucky break for her at nineteen years of age. I’m a little lost with the dwindling sight, but will find a way to compensate. I just need to remember to put a pillow behind my head, most especially if I’ve taken a sleeping tablet. But then again it seems there are many things I forget to do after taking a sleeping tablet and one of them is to put my phone away!!!
